Wales (/ˈweɪlz/) is a country that’s a constituent part of the United Kingdom. It’s located on a large, mountainous peninsula[1] to the west of England and to the east of Ireland over the Irish Sea.

Wales is an English-speaking country, where Welsh English is spoken, but with some areas that are predominantly Welsh-speaking and where the preservation of the Welsh is seen as socially and politically important.

The irregular demonyms “Welshman" and “Welshwoman" can be used to refer to Welsh people.
