Visual puzzles

Hi Jameson, Visual puzzles is an interesting article. Thanks for contributing it, and welcome to Teflpedia! I have done some minor edits to Visual puzzles that I trust will be helpful. I don't want to interfere further while you are in the midst of the creative act. I will visit it again later on and see if I can be of any assistance with the layout. Yes --Roger, thanks for formatting the page - I`m new to wiki so I didn`t know how to... As for the copyright Bob M, a few of the idiom puzzles are from the puzzles from the mentioned book, and there are a couple of my own aswell (hopefully I`ll put more in soon) I haven`t copied the fonts or layout exactly as they are found in the book, and have only used half of the ones given so I assume that`s ok, but if I am not allowed to use altered versions then I will remove them and create new ones.^{This unsigned comment was made by Jameson2000ad}

Hi Jameson. Thanks for coming back on this. It's really respecting the copyright of the content that's important - the fonts and the formatting are not the most important. So if would be better if you used stuff that you had created yourself rather images re-edited from another work. Our relevant copyright policy can be found here. How to find your stuff

Jameson, finding things on Teflpedia is still a little rough. I'm working on improving this. Meanwhile,

• You can find all your contributions to Teflpedia via your "User contributions" link, which appears under "Toolbox" in left sidebar when you are on your user page or your talk page (both of which are linked next to the little user icon at top of every page when you are logged in).
• Category:Activities will bring up many if not all your activity pages. If any are missing, you could find those via your "User contributions" page and add [[Category:Activities]] at bottom of them.
• When you create a page, or find one that lacks appropriate category tags, you could cut and paste these sample tags into it, at page bottom, and then delete or change any that don't quite apply:

[[Category:Speaking]]
[[Category:Writing]]
[[Category:Games]]
[[Category:Warmers]]
[[Category:Coolers]]
[[Category:Energizers]]

I'm exploring software that will allow us to display the intersection between two or more categories, eg only pages that are in both of two or more categories. Till that is installed, please use some combination of above to find pages. Or try the Search box at page top. Thanks for all your great contributions! Jameson, by the way, to indent replies on talk pages (it's our convention, although I suppose not strictly necessary), just put colons (:) at start of line. I've indented this and your line above by way of example. Add an extra colon for each lever of reply, eg (:), then (::), then (:::). Good idea! Anyone can create new category tags by just typing [[category:something here]] at bottom of a page. Done! But it will be a red link till someone types some explanatory text at top of that category page, which is simply a matter of following the red link and typing something like, "Links to energizers -- short fast-paced activities to energize and motivate students", at top of that category page. This makes the category link blue. I have added [[Category:Energizer]] to the example category tags above. --Roger 13:43, 20 October 2012 (CDT)

Tip: to add your signature to your comments on talk pages, just type --~~~~. When you save the page it changes into a date stamped link to your userpage. If you find typing --~~~~ inconvenient, you can click the signature button, second from right, above the edit field which inserts it. I find it easier just to type --~~~~. The "--" double hyphen part is not necessary, just common wiki signature style. The date stamp is helpful however, so please do include it. You need four tildes to get the date stamp. Search box's Go and Search buttons

From here: [1] but really, if there is a copyright on that image then there must also be one for stickmen - search images for "mexican frying egg". The set of images was found here: [2] and the lift puzzle from here [3]. If either of these are copyrighted, I`m sure we can doodle our own versions to upload...

Thanks James. Ideas are not copyrightable. Original work is. I think we are on the right track if we draw our own pictures and upload those instead of publishing on Teflpeida pictures, however simple, drawn by others without their permission. Visual puzzles still has a "collection of eight puzzles" image that we don't have permission for. I am not a lawyer, however, I feel we might be on the right track if we skip the "collection of puzzles" image altogether and just go with one puzzle per image. I like the drawings you have been doing -- white board style -- very nicely classroom-authentic, which communicates an excellent "You can do this easily on your white-board, too" message to our readers.

Are you up for converting the "collection of puzzles" image into separate white-board style images? Oh, BTW, please put a "I drew this myself" note in the Summary field of the image upload form when you are uploading stuff you draw yourself. If you forget to, for images you have already uploaded, you can go to the image's File page, click edit and add your source note that way. It is important to clearly indicate the source of images we upload. That would be great! (If you don't want to do the drawings, let me know and I will try to do it. All done Roger, I have replaced them with my own sketches. I don`t know how to delete the images that were previously there, so I`ll leave that up to you. I have also typed a note "This is my own sketch --Jameson2000ad 16:15, 30 October 2012 (CDT)" in the edit screen. I tried to leave the note in the summary box but each time I saved and reloaded the page there was no summary - not sure what I was doing wrong so I just put the note in the edit boxes for all the other images I`ve sketched. Preview

Hi Jameson. It's realy great to see all your contributions here. You put me, at least, to shame. I'd like to make a point on wiki editing though. If you are making number of small edits to an article (or building and article) it is best to use the "show preview" button to see how things are going to look and only use the "save page" button when you are satisfied how things are going to look. If you use the "save page" button to review things then the "recent changes" page becomes hard to read.

Once you have been using wikis for a while you will find that recent changes is often your first port of call as you can see at a glance where the current activity is on a wiki. Consequently, once a wiki gets a significant number of users, people can get irritated if the only thing they see on recent changes is a series of minor changes to one article. (Of course, sometimes it's unavoidable as you only spot or remember something just after you've hit "save page".)
