The College English Test (CET) is a standardised test of English that is widely used in China. It is required for all university students whose main subject isn’t English.

Its Chinese name is 大学四六级英语考试 (pinyin: "Dàxué sìliù jí yīngyǔ kǎoshì"; literally “University 4-6 Level English test"), or 大学公共英语考试 (Pinyin: "Dàxué gōnggòng yīngyǔ kǎoshì" - literally “University public English test" - though it’s generally known as CET even in Chinese.

There are two levels, CET4 and CET6.

It was introduced (when).

Those who do English as a subject instead take the Test for English Majors.
