The standard pronunciation in both RP and General American is as a diphthong, with the diphthongal nucleus as an open-mid back rounded vowel [ɔ] and the diphthongal glide as a near-close near-front unrounded vowel, [ɪ].

In addition to the more common pronunciation [ɔɪ], the sound of this phoneme can have many variations such as [oɪ],[2][3] [ɑi] or even [ɔjɪ].[4]
