Should test/testing come under this umbrella term or does it require its own article? Am in two minds. Feedback, anyone?--Technopat 10:22, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

My initial thought was that it shouldn't be here and that it should be a seperate article. But then it occurred to me that the objective of a test is to assess a student at some level.
On the other hand you can assess a student by simply talking to them. But you could also say that under those circumstances "simply talking" is a test.
Sooo .. I'm in two minds as well. I sort of feel that "assessment" is a more general concept and that "test" is more specific. But it might be difficult to write two separate articles without duplicating work. Still - types of tests? Ways of marking? I'm still torn.--Bob M 18:49, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Yep! I don't actually test me students - base it all on assessment, which of course includes all sorts of stuff like linguistic competence, etc. that most tests don't cover... But there again, most of my students need their English for real-life situations, not for passing exams... ;) --Technopat 19:51, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I can't say that I've given an actual "test" to a student for quite some time either. On the other hand a lot of teachers, and certainly schools, do.--Bob M 21:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I reckon we should set up a new article on either test or testing where folks can rant on about the pros and cons of different sorts of tests, as in multiple-choice, etc. On the one hand it would help lighten this particular article, and on the other, well, not really sure, but...--Technopat 18:26, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
