The international organization TESOL (Teachers to Speakers of Other Languages) [1] has a mission "to develop and maintain professional expertise in English language teaching and learning for speakers of other languages worldwide."[2]

It is associated with a large number of national English teaching organisations. [3] Individual membership costs ninety-five dollars although there are other options.[4]

Events and conferences[edit]

They have an annual four-day conference held in the USA which aims to further their mission, [5] and they also hold other international events. [6]

Other uses[edit]

TESOL, by itself is also used as an acronym for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

It is often used as a synonym for TEFL, but it can also be used as a description for English language teaching to people living in an English speaking country who are not native English speakers – such as refugees and first generation immigrants.
