? or a question mark is a punctuation mark used to indicate questions.

In English, these are used at the end of question sentences. For example:

  • "How many sheep are there?"

Note in some languages, especially Spanish, ¿, which is an inverted question mark is used to indicate a question follows. We don't generally use this in English, except possibly when quoting Spanish questions.
