Mistake

From Teflpedia

A mistake (/məsteɪk/) is an error made with language the speaker/writer knows fairly well and can easily correct.

This distinction between error and mistake is not always drawn, but it was first drawn by Pit Corder in 1967:

"It will be useful therefore here-after to refer to errors of performance as mistakes, reserving the term error to refer to the systematic errors of the learner from which we are able to reconstruct his knowledge of the language to date, i.e. his transitional competence." (Corder, 1967 p 167).
