Leonard Newmark (1919–2022) was Professor Emeritus at San Diego University.[1] [2] As the director of the Linguistics Language Program (LLP) in the mid 1960s, he is credited with introducing an "innovative way of teaching languages, a forerunner of the kinds of communicative approaches that are widespread today.”[3]

Stephen Krashen acknowledges Newmark’s inspiration in developing his own Theory of second language acquisition.[4]
