Irregular pronunciation

From Teflpedia

Irregular pronunciation is an irregularity of pronunciation.

In English there are two types. The first, which could be called "irregularly pronounced spelling", is where pronunciation does not follow the alphabetical principle and match spelling, hence it's the flipside of irregular spelling.

The second type of irregular pronunciation is "non-standard phoneme use", when English speakers do not use the 44 phonemes of standard English but introduce others, particularly to pronounce foreign loanwords similarly to the original, e.g. Loch, Llanelli, croissant.
