Communication strategy

Communication strategies are, along with learning strategies, the two major components of strategies-based instruction.[1] They're frequently introduced to the classroom in order to raise students' awareness of particularly successful language-acquisition habits.[2]


Dörnyei [3] provides twelve common communication strategies, divided into three categories.

Avoidance or Reduction Strategies

Achievement or Compensatory Strategies

Stalling or Time-gaining Strategies
