A trailing asterisk* can mean, "See note at *, below."
Further notes on the same page may be called out with superscript dagger† for the second note and double-dagger‡ for the third. An alternative to superscript daggers is superscript-ii and superscript-ii.ii
(Numbers may be used instead of symbols, in which case you start with1, not *.)
* This would be the note referenced by above asterisk.
† or i. This would be the note referenced by above dagger or i.
‡ or ii. This would be the note referenced by above double-dagger or ii.
