A word list is a list of words. This may, at first sight, seem an old-fashioned resource, but when dealing with students from different walks of life, fields of knowledge and language needs, a teacher may find him/herself at a loss for words beyond the basic minimum that form part of the lexis of any reasonably well-educated adult, and often appreciates being able to fall back on such a list, especially at the lesson plan stage.
While it's up to each teacher to make imaginative use of such lists, you may find they come in handy as the basis for successive mindmaps, vocabulary ELT games and conversation questions. In other words, it is more of a resource for the teacher than for the student...
