Whom (/hu:m/) is an English wh- pronoun; it can be used to reference grammatical objects, but not subjects, in a similar way to who.
Whom may still used in formal writing, but in general speech may be substituted by “who.”
In our context then it’s not generally important unless the student likes grammar and wants to play with it a little bit.
