Wh phoneme /(h)w/
From Teflpedia
The Wh phoneme /hw/ is a consonant phoneme that’s a non-standard English phoneme that occurs in some accents, i.e. those with the ᴡʜɪɴᴇ–ᴡɪɴᴇ split. In accents without this split, this phoneme is merged into the W phoneme /w/.
This can only occur at syllable onset.
Spelling is typically the digraph ⟨wh⟩.
In phonemic notation, it can be written as /hw/. Although this suggests it’s a consonant cluster. Another alternative is to write is as /(h)w/ showing that /h/ is optional. In this way, whine /(h)waɪn/ can be distinguished from wine /waɪn/.
Pronunciation may be as a voiceless labiovelar fricative [ʍ].
