Wh- statement

From Teflpedia

A wh- statement is a statement with a wh- word as its subject. In English, for example:

  • What to do in an emergency

These basically consist of a wh- word followed by a verb phrase with a to infinitive as its head. The verb phrase may or may not include a direct object; What to eat lacks one while How to eat shellfish has one.

Some EFL learners try to use a wh- statement as a question, when they should really be using a wh- question.
