A (travel) visa /ˈvi:zə/ is a conditional authorization granted by a territory (typically a nation state) to a foreigner, allowing them to enter, remain within, or to leave that territory.[1]

Although the legal details vary between territories, these can generally be classed into tourist visas for tourism, student visas for those studying, and work visas which allow the authorisee to engage in paid work.
