Vegetables
From Teflpedia
Vegetables are parts of plants that are consumed by humans or other animals as food.[1]
One source of confusion for EFL learners is that vegetable is usually a count noun, whereas fruit and meat are usually non-count.
There are a couple of national differences, in which British English follows French, but American English doesn’t:
- A British English aubergine is known as an eggplant in American English.
- A British English courgette is known as a zucchini in American English.
In some countries, there may be some vegetables that are only eaten locally, and difficult for a non-local teacher to name.
