Unfinished time

Unfinished time, sometimes past unfinished time is a time period that has not yet finished.

Examples include this week, your whole life, and usually today.

Examples of time periods that may be unfinished, but may also be finished time include today (except at the end of the day), this morning (during the morning), this afternoon during the afternoon), this evening (during the evening), this month (except at the end of the month), this week (except at the end of the week), etc. The adverb already and recently both imply unfinished time.

For unfinished time English speakers tend to use the present perfect, sometimes present perfect progressive. Speakers of American English often use the past simple instead.
