In English, this is the only numbered grammatical person that is marked for sexual gender, though as an alternative singular they can be used, which is singular usage of the third person plural form.
With be, the third person takes the conjugation "is" in the present tense and "was" in the past tense. Other verbs take forms of the third person -s in the present tense, unlike other numbered grammatical persons.
