A phone.
Disambiguation: For the game see telephone (game)

A telephone or phone is a telecommunications device that enables voice communication over large distances.

Since via a telephone, there is no visual communication, phones present different challenges to face-to-face communication.

Exercises such as giving and taking messages can be realistic. Learners often need to be trained to check understanding of messages by repeating the understood message back to the other participant. Following up phone calls with an email summarising what was discussed is also a good business practice, as that gives a written record.

Calls can be simulated by having students sit back-to-back so they can talk to each other but can’t see each other.

Telephone classes may also be conducted over a phone.
