Teflpedia talk:Wikigogy migration
Lesson[edit source]
1. Would TEFLPedia like to have some EFL lessons imported from Wikigogy?
- Examples (we have these 5 lessons by César Eduardo Carrillo Ortiz, an English teacher in Mexico, from 2007):

2. Would lessons be imported into TEFLPedia's main name space or perhaps into a Lesson: namespace? --Roger 04:22, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Roger. I had a problem with the automatic transfer so I set up one here as a copy-paste without changing any formatting. Lesson:Grapevine. I've put the "editlesson" template on it:
- I would suggest that the creation of a special "editlesson" template which credits Wikigogy and which links to the Wikigogy page here. I suggest this as linking back to the original Wikigogy page might result in a red link if the page eventually disappeared. In other words this:
- Thoughts?--Bob M 08:39, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- I went ahead and changed the template anyway.--Bob M 08:53, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Process discussion[edit source]
As far as I can the the process would be as follows: (Italic actions take place at Wikigogy)
- Identify the Wikigogy article to be moved.
- Use the Wikigogy export Box.
- Save the file to your PC.
- Use the TP Import box at TP to import from your PC.
- Add the {{Wikigogy}} banner to give credit at TP.
- Add the [[category:lessons transferred from Wikigogy]] cat at TP.
- Let's put this category into Template:Wikigogy instead, once. It thus is magically on each page that uses that template.--Roger 19:59, 16 January 2011 (UTC))
- OK.--Bob M 11:25, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Transfer to Freestuff: namespace at TP.
- Let's change "Freestuff:" namespace to "Lesson:". --Roger 19:59, 16 January 2011 (UTC))
- OK.--Bob M 11:25, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Blank the old page at WG and insert {{migrated|put URL to new page here}} at WG.
- Add the [[category:Migrated]] cat at Wikigogy.
- Review and tidy up at TP as appropriate.
Did I miss anything?--Bob M 12:53, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK - I have a few issues.
- Do we want to move the history?
- Maybe, if it makes maintaining attribution easier. Otherwise no. --Roger 20:05, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Upon reflection I think we should do this. It's no extra work and it helps with attribution.--Bob M 11:25, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Can we move talk pages automatically?
- I don't know. Maybe only move a talk page that looks especially useful. Most are not. --Roger 20:05, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Is there a way to drop them automatically into the correct namespace?
- I'm not sure how the "keyword" functions in the lessons.
- Okay to delete the Keyword stuff. That was my attempt at categorzing stuff.--Roger 20:11, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Probably a silly question but what do the numbers: ll_1 ll_2 ll_3 ll_4 ll_5 ll_6 ll_7 ll_8 ll_9 represent on the lesson pages?
- "ll" stands for "language level". Okay to remove that.--Roger 20:11, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Are we giving sufficient attribution?--Bob M 18:31, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Do we want to move the history?
Process[edit source]
To migrate a page from Wikigogy to TEFLPedia:
- Identify the Wikigogy article to be moved by adding {{TP}} at top of it (to be changed to {{migrated|put URL to new page here}} after these steps have all been done)
- Use the Wikigogy export Box and uncheck [ ] "Include only the current version, not the full history" above Export button before clicking it. We want full history for attribution purposes.
- Save the file to your PC.
- Use the TP Import box at TP to import from your PC.
- Add the {{Wikigogy}} banner to give credit at TP and auto-apply the Wikigogy cat at TP.
- Move page to Lesson: namespace at TP by clicking Move tab and adding "Lesson:" to beginning of page name.
- Blank the old page at WG and insert {{migrated|put URL to new page here}} at WG.
- Review and tidy up at TP as appropriate. (Remove "keyword" Remove ll_1 ll_2 ll_)
Are we good to go?--Bob M 21:46, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes --Roger 01:22, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Situation[edit source]
I'm not going to be able to do much on this project for the rest of this week as I have an urgent "real life" task. But if anybody else wants to play please don't let my absence stop you.--Bob M 21:59, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
OK. Let's go.[edit source]
AS it looks like moving items one by one will be slow it has been suggested that we should ID pages to move and then use a wikibot to move them en-masse. (Or via cat)
In that case the outstanding actions are:
- ID the pages that we want to move to TP.
- Look into wikibot to move them.
Additionally[edit source]
- Review high inters pages at WG to move early.--Bob M 13:04, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
