Background[edit]

The TEFL wiki Wikigogy is in the process of closing and some of its content is being transferred to Teflpedia. At the moment the emphasis is on the transfer of its content with lesson material.

Transfer mechanism for individual lessons[edit]

These are the steps to take when transferring an individual lesson.

italics refers to actions to take at Wikigogy

  1. Identify the Wikigogy article to be moved: mark candidate WG pages with {{TP}} (adds them to this cat).
  2. Use the Wikigogy export Box. uncheck [ ] "Include only the current version, not the full history" before clicking Export! We want the full history.
  3. Save the file to your PC.
  4. Use the TP Import box at TP to import from your PC.
  5. Add the {{Wikigogy}} banner to give them credit and auto-apply the Wikigogy cat at TP.
  6. Transfer to Lesson: namespace at TP.
  7. Blank the old page at Wikigogy and add {{migrated|put URL to new page here}} to redirect folks and auto-add it to http://wikigogy.org/category:migrated.
  8. Review and tidy up at TP as appropriate. Remove "keyword". Remove ll_1 ll_2 ll_. Check for red links and get additional material from Wikigogy if necessary.
  9. Review the Wikigogy talk page - if it exists - to see if there is relevant material.

Copying and pasting the following at the empty Wikigogy page is a little quicker. Remember to add the new TP URL after "migrated" and to close the }}

We are investigating methods of bulk transfer. Articles to be included in the bulk transfer will first be give the template {{TP}}.

FAQ[edit]

Why is Wikigogy closing?
As a result of a personal decision by its owner.
Why don't we link back to the original page in Wikigogy?
  • There is now no content in the original page.
  • Wikigogy will disappear at some point and that would simply create a broken link.
  • Including the article history gives sufficient attribution.
Why does the lesson content go into a different namespace?
We wish to keep the encyclopaedic and other content separate. See Help:Working with special spaces.
What will happen to the article content at Wikigogy?
At some point that may be merged with the Teflpedia content. At the moment the lesson content is the easiest to transfer.
I've seen a reference to TEFL China. What is this?
TEFL China is another wiki owned and managed by the owner of Wikigogy. Some China-specific material may be transferred there from Wikigogy. The details of this have yet to be worked out but we will probably not wish to duplicate content.
What about copyright issues?
Wikigogy and Teflpedia have identical copyright licences which means they can share content. The transferred lessons carry a banner attributing Wikigogy and we are importing the history. If article content is merged in the future then a talk page banner will be applied.
What should the two wikis look like I've finished?
Here is an article transferred to Teflpedia. Here is what remains of that article at Wikigogy.
Why are your transferring articles individually?
We are still testing the process. At some point we might try to transfer by category as the facility seems to exist.
