Since we have a lot of spam it would be nice if we had one or both of the following:

  • new questions in the captcha
  • captcha when publishing anonymously. This feature is not present in Wikipedia, but is in http://www.explainxkcd.com/ which uses MediaWiki.

I asked Roger if there was anything we could do a while ago. I'll remind him now. cheers. --Bob M (talk) 16:55, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Copied from Teflpedia talk:Spam prevention:

Currently, and since 24 November 2014, we are getting spam almost every day. On 19 January 2015 we began getting pseudo-German gibberish. Around 5 new users each day create a user page and an article page. The contents has Cyrillic or Greek letters replacing Roman ones. For example "niςht" instead of "nicht". New questions in the captcha[edit]

It would very nice to have new questions in the captcha, and delete the old ones. Ghoti (talk) 21:47, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Please email new captcha question:answer pairs we could use on TEFLpedia to me at rogerchrisman@gmail.com. Thanks --Roger (talk) 18:40, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
They can be questions like "What's the past tense of take?" or "How much is two plus three?". Of course, the current questions can't be used. Regards. Ghoti (talk) 21:06, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Ghoti. I set a new question just now and removed the old ones. Let's see if it helps. I hope it will. --Roger (talk) 23:27, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, Roger. It's too soon to know, but last night we didn't get any spam, something that has very seldom happened this year. Ghoti (talk) 13:24, 30 March 2015 (UTC).
Three nights in a row, it obviously worked. Thanks again. Ghoti (talk) 12:31, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
I liked the question. Ghoti (talk) 19:57, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Few! I had QuestyCaptcha disabled for a few minutes after the MW1.31.1 upgrade and new spam accounts flew in fast. I re-enabled QuestyCaptcha (it is part of ConfirmEdit) and that stopped them. So, we still need this! Roger (talk) 15:04, 3 January 2019 (CST)

reCaptcha (NoCaptcha)[edit]

January 3, 2019. I switched Teflpedia to use reCaptcha (NoCaptcha) instead of QuestyCaptcha. Let me know if it causes any problems. Roger (talk) 01:08, 4 January 2019 (CST)

403 again[edit]

I get a 403 error identical to the example shown in Teflpedia:Error 403 but for different reasons.

Now I can't see any user page, for example User:Bob_M or User:jddjhddhduyeuye. I can see talk pages, though. If I replace the colon by %3a I can see the page, as in http://teflpedia.com/User%3aBob_M. This does not work every time.

I added this information to Teflpedia:Error 403#March 2016.

Regards, Ghoti (talk) 18:10, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Does this problem still exist?--Bob M (talk) 07:14, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes. If you click on my userpage, for example, it says "403: Forbidden Access to this resource on the server is denied!" Gooniepunk2005 (talk) 08:58, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
I've written to Roger to see if he has any ideas.--Bob M (talk) 11:13, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Fixed. A mod_security rule was being triggered by User:<username> page requests. AndrewT at our Webhost, Dathorn, corrected that so that User:<username> pages are loading nicely again. --Roger (talk) 01:33, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! Ghoti (talk) 13:13, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Note: I noticed today that quote (") marks cannot be used in wiki bold text. It triggers a 403 Forbidden error. So don't put quotes within bold text. Roger (talk) 00:54, 4 January 2019 (CST)

How to Create an Online TEFL Course?[edit]

Hi all teachers,

I am an experienced teacher looking to get into training and have a good idea. Part of my idea is having an online platform that students can use to complete 120 hours of study (this is not the entire idea).

I am lost as where to begin finding the necessary help when it comes to creating and managing the site. Content will be created by myself and other professionals but I am at a loss when trying to figure out how to get the online course up and running.

This is an encyclopedia- it is not suitable to used as an online platform. https://teachable.com/ is just one place to try making your own online course. You can of course refer students to teflpedia pages. This unsigned comment was made by ‎ 23:43, 27 April 2017 UTC

Requesting sysop status[edit]

Right now this wiki has only one active sysop, and one semi-retired sysop. I think it will do the wiki some good if we add another sysop to the ranks.--Odin (talk) 09:38, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

I think you should ask Bob by other means (email or RationalWiki). Ghoti (talk) 15:24, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
