Teaching English as a foreign language

From Teflpedia

Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) involves the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL).

In the US there is extensive teaching of English to residents, TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).[1]. The acronym TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is also used.

TEFL is usually carried out outside English-speaking countries.

The term teaching English as a second language (TESL) is often preferred within English-speaking countries where English is the majority language and lacking foreignness, so not in fact foreign.
