Does this need to be merged with L2 - or vice versa? --Technopat 16:15, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

To be honest I don't much like the terms L1 and L2. It's really TEFLspeak in my opinion. I prefer "mother tongue" and "target language" (for want of a better term). I also guess that "L1" above is a typo and it should be "L2" - of have I missed something obvious?--Bob M 20:55, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Fully agree re mother tongue/target language vs L1/L2. As this seems to mean consensus, I'll try to get round to re-directing, etc. on the morrow. --Technopat 21:37, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
It should be unmerged as they are different terms. L2 refers to someone's second language, it could be English it could be another. Target language is the language the students should practise in a particular activity, which may be broadly or narrowly defined. Duncan (talk) 06:23, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
