Thanks for fixing. Years of Spanish education did amount to something! Sterile 01:17, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sterile. Think is there are various ways of looking at the subjunctive. What we are looking for is a description which will be useful for English teachers who may be asked about the issue by students.--Bob M 06:50, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've just cut this from the article:

Cut begins:

-The form of the subjunctive-

The subjunctive is not always easy to spot, as it almost always spelt and pronounced in the same way as the past tense.

-Cut ends-

I think it rather depends on what you define the "subjunctive" to be. It’s sometimes the "past tense" form but not in, for example, "I insist that I be informed".--Bob M 03:10, 28 February 2012 (CST)

It’s not well-worded. For regular verbs, the past subjunctive form is identical to the past indicative form. Tense and mood are different grammatical categories. As user:Bob M points out, although we mostly use the subjunctive in the past tense, it may be used in the present tense. --Duncan (talk) 08:22, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
