Syllabic onset

From Teflpedia

The onset (/ˈɒnˌset/) is the first consonant sound in a syllable, for example /k/ in “cat" /kæt/.

English syllables may or may not have onsets.

The rest of the syllable consists of the rime, which in turn consists of a syllabic peak and optionally a coda.
