Pedagogy[edit | edit source]
Starter questions are used to start conversations, for speaking practice. Language learners are often given starter questions to ask classmates, and expected to add follow-up questions to any interesting replies they receive, to practice using language authentically. Sometimes starter questions are used as icebreakers, to help students transition from a passive to participatory state. Sometimes, biographical questions are taught to students at the beginning of teaching years, to accommodate new students too.
