From Teflpedia

Spend (/spend/) is an English verb, related to both money and time.[1]

Spend is an irregular lexical verb - it has the third person form "spends" /spendz/, the -ing form "spending", but an irregular preterite and past participle "spent" (/spent/).

We typically use spend for time and money. e.g. "I spent £10 on a cleaner" or "I spent three hours cleaning my flat" (time).

Spend has a German false friend spenden ("to donate, provide”)[2]
