A receptionist (/rəsepʃənɪst/) is an employee taking a customer-facing role at a front office desk of an organisation or business. They have to greet customers and attend to their needs, and probably addition tasks particularly answering the phone.
In a language school in a non-English-speaking country, receptionists are your colleagues. They are often local staff who can speak the local language. They may also speak to the students in English if their English is good enough.
Receptionists in many international companies have to be polylingual in order to deal with enquiries in different languages.
