Teflpedia:Rationalwiki

From Teflpedia
(Redirected from Rationalwiki)

Rationalwiki (/ˌræʃənəlˈwɪki:/) is a wiki dedicated to coverage of various topics, from a rational perspective. They’re particularly interested in crank ideas, pseudoscience, religion, and media discourse.

Rationalwiki has a historic relationship with Teflpedia. Basically, Teflpedia founder Bob Mudford hangs out there, and their gang hung out here for some time in 2009 when their server fell over. Teflpedia has its own entry in its documentation[1]

Rationalwiki entries can be very snarky; sometimes to the point of being annoyingly so.

For some time now, it has been blocked in China.[2]

Rationalwiki probably has scope for more articles on the pseudoscience to be found within the broad "foreign language learning industry". That is, evidence-based practice in teaching is often not employed as rigorously as it probably ought to be.[3] To be clear, many teachers, including EFL teachers, are using instructional practices which range from the dubious to the positively disproven. The reasons for this are complicated but often involve people genuinely, but mistakenly, practising things that they think make sense, but don’t actually make sense. Money is often the root of all evil, and of course the industry is affected by legal but morally dubious business practices.

We suggest they should probably have a page on language learning, given the tendency of cranks to invent a method of language learning, which magically bypasses the time on task required, and therefore of dubious efficacy, for which conveniently the inventor can charge money. Alas, they don’t.[4]

They also have an evil twin, that is a wiki dedicated to promoting crank ideas, pseudoscience and American far-right Christian politics, Conservapedia.

Anything else?[edit source]

It has nothing to do with rats.
