R (/ɑ:/ lower case r) is the 18th letter of the Latin alphabet, as used in English, and the 14th consonant letter.

R forms the consonant phonograms: consonant monograph ⟨r⟩, and digraphs ⟨rr⟩, ⟨rh⟩ and ⟨wr⟩. It also forms several vowel phonograms, as the final letter, i.e. vowel digraphs ⟨ar⟩, ⟨er⟩, ⟨ir⟩, ⟨or⟩, ⟨ur⟩, plus vowel trigraphs ⟨air⟩ ⟨aur⟩, ⟨our⟩, ⟨ear⟩ ⟨eir⟩ ⟨ier⟩.
