Progressive present
From Teflpedia
(Redirected from Progressive now)
The progressive now[1] is the usage of the present progressive to describe actions happening now, at this very moment.
For example:
- "You are reading Teflpedia."
Meaning[edit | edit source]
Actions happening now, at this very moment. This must be a progressive action.
Form[edit | edit source]
This uses the present progressive.
CCQs[edit | edit source]
- Is this in the past time, present time or future time? Present time (though it started in the past and will continue into the future)
- How many times am I talking about this action? (once)
Pedagogy[edit | edit source]
This is learnt at elementary level; in fact in some cases it can be taught before the present simple.
It’s a good way of miming actions and having students guess what you’re doing.
