Phoric concord

From Teflpedia

Phoric concord or phoric agreement is concord with regard to phoric references of pronouns. In English, phoric references typically must agree with grammatical person (i.e. show person concord), usually agree with grammatical number (show number concord), and sometimes with grammatical gender (gender concord).

As all English pronouns are gender neutral pronouns except the third person singular pronouns, gender concord is only necessary for third person singular forms.

For gender neutrality in the third person singular. Singular they, of which generic they is a form, uses the third person plural pronouns to refer to a singular person, thus violating person concord. Generic he violates gender concord by referring to masculine and feminine referents using only masculine pronouns.
