A personality clash (/pɜ:sənælɪti klæʃ/) occurs when two (or more) people find themselves in conflict not over a particular issue or incident, but due to a fundamental incompatibility in their personalities, their approaches to things, or their style of life.
Personality clashes occur in ESL contexts:
- Between students - this can often be managed by basic classroom management, i.e. separating the students.
- Between colleagues - particularly if it involves either yourself or your boss. This can be very awkward.
- Between a teacher and a student - this requires a lot of patience on the teacher's part!
