From Teflpedia

A parent (/ˈpeərənt/) is a person who is the mother or father of a child.

Parents are stakeholders in their children’s education. They may be paying money for this privilege, and may end up making a complaint (justified or unjustified).

A more politically correct term is "parent or guardian" (pl. "parents and guardians"), as the legal guardians of children may not be their parents.

English-speaking kids usually refer to their parents as "mum and dad", which tends to be pronounced /mʌməndæd/ like it’s one word.

Teachers and others may be placed in loco parentis.
