Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary

From Teflpedia

Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (OALD) is a free on-line dictionary provided by Oxford University Press in its website Oxford Learner's Dictionaries.

To consult OALD you must select "English" in the drop-down menu of the Oxford Learner's Dictionaries website. The same site also has Oxford Advanced American Dictionary.

IPA pronunciation key[edit]

Most of the phonetic pronunciations of Teflpedia are based on this dictionary, except that we write the silent /r/ so that in many words the British transcription is identical to the American transcription. We also write syllabic consonants preceded by a schwa (e.g. fashion as /ˈfæʃən/ instead of /ˈfæʃn/).

IPA vowels
æ ɑː
trap father - start

We highlight in yellow when Teflpedia and OALD differ.

The official key of OALD can be found at http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/about/pronunciation_english.
