Orthographic sentence

From Teflpedia

An orthographic sentence is a sentence, typically written, that when well-formed consists of a string of text that follows punctuation rules of having its first letter capitalised and ending in a terminal mark (typically a full stop). For example:

  • Teflpedia is a glossary.

This definition says nothing about the grammar of the sentence. Indeed, writers may flout grammar "rules", sometimes for literary or poetic effect. For example:

  • I came, I saw, I conquered. - this has three subjects, and three predicates, and violates the rule that “a sentence should have only one subject and a predicate.”
