Negative contraction

Auxiliary-negative contraction occurs in a contraction used in a negative question, where the auxiliary verbs (auxiliary do, auxiliary have and auxiliary be), plus modal verbs.

  • "Do you not like sprouts?" contracts to "Don’t you like sprouts?"
Do you not like sprouts ?
Don’t you like sprouts ?
  • "Are you not happy?" contracts to "Aren’t you happy?"
Are you not happy? ?
