Negative n- is a prefix found in English (and several related languages) that indicates negation. It’s sometimes written n- and sometimes no-.
Words beginning with this prefix include:
- no (independent polarity particle)
- not (dependent polarity particle)
- none = n+one
- nothing = no+thing
- no-one, nobody
- nowhere = no+where
- neither = n+either
- nor = n+or (co-ordinating conjunction)
- never = n+ever (indefinite frequency adverb)
This is also found in many languages related to English.
