Narrative present

From Teflpedia

The narrative present is a discourse structure used in English, when narration is described using the present tense, particularly the present simple with present perfect, present continuous and present perfect continuous in support.

This is particularly used for action sequences, where the narrative switches out of the narrative past and is "brought to life" by bringing it to proximity to the audience. [insert example]

It’s also used in very low level graded readers for beginner and elementary students who haven’t studied the past tense yet.
