Much

From Teflpedia

Much is an English adjective.

Meaning[edit | edit source]

Much means “a lot of.”

Form[edit | edit source]

Much is unusual insofar as it can only apply to singular nouns, while many should be used with plurals.

We tend to use much in the negative, e.g.

There wasn’t much water.

Much, like many, is an irregular adjective; it has the comparative form more and the superlative form most.

Appropriacy[edit | edit source]

In affirmative sentences, we can use much, we often prefer a lot of or lots of:

There was much water.

Much can be combined with how to make how much.
