Changing the default dictionary[edit]

Go to http://www.macmillandictionary.com/. Search any word. For example "bath" may select http://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/bath_1, the British definition with pronunciation /bɑːθ/. To select the American definition go to the end of the definition (around the middle of the page), and in small print find

This is the British English definition of bath. View American English definition of bath.

Change your default dictionary to American English.

This key is very similar to that of Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary. Note that Macmillan don't use triangular colon in the American pronunciation; this is highlighted in grey. We highlight in yellow the other differences between Teflpedia and Macmillan. The main difference is that we don’t write parentheses around silent /r/ so that in many words the British transcription is identical to the American transcription.
