Irish is a celtic language that arose and is spoken in Ireland.[1]

Irish, like its cousin Welsh, has largely been replaced by English due to language shift.

The most obvious effect in English is with Irish given names and placenames, spelling for which can follow Irish patterns. For example Ruaridh is pronounced /rɔ:ri/ and Siobhan is pronounced /ʃəvɔ:n/

It shouldn't be confused with Irish English, which is English as spoken in Ireland.
