International school

From Teflpedia

An international school is a school for children which has a student body that is primarily drawn from the children of expatriates.

English language international schools are found in very large cities in non-English-speaking countries. There are also American schools in the UK and British schools in the USA.

Some may be further described as "American International School" or "British International School". Typically, they are independent schools, outside of state control. The student body may be a mix of Anglophone and non-Anglophone, e.g. children of Dutch diplomats may be sent to an English-speaking international school due to a lack of local Dutch language international schools. Some proportion of the student body may also be local, and desire English language education.
