Initial consonant cluster /ʃm/

From Teflpedia

/ʃm/ is an initial consonant cluster that occurs marginally in English.

Where it does occur, it tends to be in German-to-English loans or Yiddish-to-English loans. The spelling is schm, like schmaltz, schmo, schmuck, schmooze, schmeltz[1] and few other words. It also occurs in some surnames of German origin, e.g. Schmidt.

English phonotactics naturally prefers initial consonant cluster /sm/ in such positions.

Though this exists, it’s probably not worth teaching to EFL students unless a word like this comes up.
