Authenticity (/ɔ:θəntɪsɪti/) is a property of texts (authentic texts) and tasks (authentic tasks).
An authentic (/ɔ:θentɪk/) text is one that was originally produced for a real life purpose outside of education, and inauthentic learner texts form their own genre. A truly authentic task is difficult in the classroom, and simulated authentic tasks may have to be substituted. Students might react with negative affect to inauthentic texts or tasks.
