An IPA number is an identification number assigned to each symbol used within the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). This covers individual speech sounds, plus all the diacritics, brackets, etc. that the IPA uses.

The basic format is a 3-digit number. The first number identifies which block the symbol belongs to:
Numbers | Representing |

1XX | Consonant sounds |
2XX | retired and non-IPA consonants |
3XX | Vowel sounds |
4XX | Non-tone diacritics |
5XX | Suprasegmentals |
6XX | Extensions to the IPA |
7XX | Capital letters |
9XX | Transcription delimiters |
