ILR scale

The ILR scale is a language proficiency rating scale used by the Interagency Language Roundtable of the United States Government.[1]

There are six levels, numbered 0–5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 the highest. They are named as follows:

Level Name
0 No proficiency
1 Elementary proficiency
2 Limited working proficiency
3 Professional working proficiency
4 Full professional proficiency
5 Native or bilingual proficiency
